Isaiah 54:7-8 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. First, God promises never to leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5) as we are His children. Isaiah here refers to the outward appearance of God; God chastening us by leaving us to our own devises or letting us reap the fruit of sin. But it is just 'for a moment', then the Lord will have mercy on us. Are you in a trial? Feeling like God has abandoned you? Are you reaping what you have sown? James instructs us to 'count it all joy' (Jas 1:2) since we are strengthened through trials. But not only that but God promises to gather us, to have mercy on us and show us His everlasting kindness. This life is just for a moment, it is but a vapour that vanishes away (Jas 4:14). May we look forward to God gathering us together when Christ returns and may we also count it all joy now as we know that we are being strengthened and moulded into the image of Christ. |
