Philippians 2:5-8 "Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." This great passage is a good one to highlight the deity of Christ. But after reading it again today, the message Paul is trying to get across is one of instruction. The Philippians are told to have this attitude that was in Christ Jesus, an attitude of humility and obedience. What makes this humility so overwhelming however, is the deity of Christ; He existed in the form of God! Yet was willing take on flesh and lay down His life in obedience. We have a hard time putting ourselves under those around us and humbling ourselves in minor things... and we have no reason to be arrogant or proud. But Christ, being God, having that humility, is amazing... it really highlights the difference in character between God and mankind. Tags: |
