Philippians 2:1-3 "Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves" Part of our conduct which is worthy of the gospel of Christ is to be united in mind, loving one another, regarding others are more important than ourselves. How do we do that? Paul offers some things that lead us into that state of unity and brotherly love. They are as follows:
We must meditate on these things, thinking on them to renew our mind. Are we encouraged in Christ? We have hope, life and a relationship with the God who created the universe. What could be more encouraging?! God's love for us is greater than any love; are we comforted by that? We can take comfort in the love of God, realizing that He loves us and will never forsake us. Do we have fellowship with believers because of the Spirit within us? Our bond is based on God and His indwelling Spirit. We are adopted children of God. Do we have compassion and affection for others? Does the thought of what God has done promote compassion and affection within us? If we think on these things, putting on minds on things above, our mindset is renewed and if there is any of those things (vs 1), then we should be united and should be caring for each other as God cares for us. |
